Hometown-About.jpg

Hometown Barbecue, located in the Allapattah neighborhood of Miami, is the second barbecue restaurant from Brooklyn restauranteur Billy Durney. Hometown is known for its authentic pit smoked meats and traditional sides.

In Miami, we also feature a wood fired menu that showcases a selection of dishes cooked over live fire. Our bar serves craft beers, seasonal cocktails and a selection of wines by the glass and bottle.

For lunch we offer classic barbecue menu with walk up counter service. Beginning at five o’clock each day we change to a full service restaurant featuring both our barbecue menu and our wood fired menu. We offer our food on a first-come, first-served basis—until we sell out of that day’s specially cooked offerings. We accept reservations through RESY for evening dining.

PROPRIETOR

Alex Smith, our resident Canuck and Executive Chef, has been in the restaurant industry for over 20 years. After spending more than 10 years in the front of house, as a server, bartender, and general manager he decided to pursue his real passion of cooking. Over the last 10 years he worked in both casual and fine dining environments, including the James Beard House and ABC Kitchen in Manhattan. In 2012, he had his first bite of BBQ and began his career as a wood fired specialist. After managing the kitchen at Mighty Quinns BBQ for 3 years, helping them expand from one location to five across NYC and NJ, he continued his journey and opened BBQ restaurants both locally and internationally. Over the last 3 years, he has worked closely with his longtime pal Billy Durney. His passion for all things BBQ has turned into an obsession, and together with Billy, he continues to push the envelope on what can be done with wood, fire and time.
